Data Literacy

4. Start Becoming More Data Literate

Lead by example! Always question the data and analyses presented to you
  • When in doubt: ASK!
  • When certain: ASK ANYWAY!

Encourage everyone to challenge the data they use and the analyses that they create
  • Regularly red-team all steps of the analysis by actively hunting for errors and inconsistencies
  •  Do not allow decisions based on instinct or tradition
  • “Because we’ve always done it this way” is poison

Make an effort to understand the outcomes of actions
  •  Reward acknowledgement and understanding of failures
  •  Never become complacent about success: understand why!
