3. Analyze

DMAIC is a data-driven improvement cycle to methodically identify inefficiencies and problem areas, with the goal of improving, optimizing, or stabilizing an existing process.

Analyze the process to identify the cause-effect relationship between inputs and outputs. Identify the viral root causes.

1. Evaluate data collected in the measure phase.

2. Identify value vs. non-value added steps in the process.

3. Categorize sources of variation.

4. Determine and prioritize the root cause(s) of the problem.

PEARL HARBOR (July 6, 2018) The Virginia-class fast attack submarine USS Hawaii (SSN 776) pulls into Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, July 6, 2018, as part of the biannual Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2018 maritime exercise. Twenty-five nations, 46 ships, five submarines, about 200 aircraft, and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 27 to Aug. 2 in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. The world's largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity while fostering and sustaining cooperative relationships among participants critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security of the world's oceans.
