DMAIC Approach

1. Define

DMAIC is a data-driven improvement cycle to methodically identify inefficiencies and problem areas, with the goal of improving, optimizing, or stabilizing an existing process.

Define the problem, goals, scope and business case. Understand the context and requirements and and develop a shared understanding of the priorities for the project.

2. Who is considered the “customer” and what does the “customer” need?

3. What is the existing process that needs to be improved?

4. Who are the stakeholders involved in the existing process?

5. What are the project goals?

PUGET SOUND, Wash. (July 12, 2018) Members of the Big Red Sub Club ride the Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine USS Nebraska (SSBN 739) through the Hood Canal as the boat returns home to Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor following its first strategic patrol since 2013. Nebraska recently completed a 41-month engineered refueling overhaul, which will extend the life of the submarine for another 20 years.
